COACHING

Our legal guidance coaching session will be

  • Personalized

In our coaching sessions, expect a personalized approach to legal guidance that goes beyond conventional advice, delving into the emotional aspects of complex legal topics. Together, we will navigate and process your emotions, ensuring a comprehensive and holistic understanding of the legal challenges you face.

At any time, if our legal guidance coach believes legal advice is essential to guiding you in your circumstances, she will refer you out to an appropriate attorney who can cater their advocacy to your legal situation.

Although our coach is also an attorney, it is a conflict of interest for her to act in a dual capacity.

  • Targeted

Legal guidance is not legal advice; rather, it is a session to process the emotions tied to heavy life events that the legal system is not equipped to handle: such as co-parenting, divorce, custody modifications, mediations, protection orders, domestic traumas, and more. Emotions are not meant to affect legal decisions, but emotions are necessary to process important life choices. These coaching sessions will be targeted on your emotions and helping you identify what is required to heal prior to navigating the complex legal system.

  • Integrative

Since achieving a clear path in the legal system is important to achieving calm emotions and mental clarity, we will discuss legal documents and other proceedings to help you understand what steps to take next, what not to do, and how to move forward with a plan of action that is not bogged down with clouded emotions and reactive tendencies. Legal guidance coaching will help you understand what the legal system is designed to do, and realistically what you can do to protect yourself and others trapped in these tough life transitions.

FAQs

I AM HAVING TROUBLE FINDING AN AFFORDABLE ATTORNEY, CAN MY LEGAL GUIDANCE COACH JUST REPRESENT ME IN COURT?

Unfortunately, our legal guidance coach cannot provide legal assistance as she needs to keep boundaries between both professional capacities as a therapy intern and a lawyer. She is fully capable however in directing you to pro se services provided by the State Bar of South Dakota, Unified Justice System, and other free resources in our state.

IF THE LEGAL GUIDANCE COACH IS THE SAME AS THE MFT-INTERN, WHY IS THE INDIVIDUAL RATE HIGHER?

As our legal guidance coach must integrate legal concepts, review legal documentation, give general legal advice, and provide actionable steps and referrals within the legal system, she must maintain her bar licensure and CLE requirements, all of which come at an additional cost to therapy licensure requirements. Due to these extra fees and her expertise as a lawyer and experience in this field, she is able to charge a higher professional rate of $150/hour. Any review or administrative requests under legal guidance coaching services are charged at $75/hour, the same as the individual therapy rate.

WHY WOULD I PAY FOR LEGAL GUIDANCE COACHING RATHER THAN JUST PAYING TO RETAIN A LAWYER TO GIVE ME THIS SAME ADVICE?

Most lawyers charge upwards of $200 to $350 per hour, especially in metropolitan areas. Legal guidance coaching can help you identify why emotionally charged requests are not viable within the legal context, something lawyers do not necessarily disclose to clients. Our legal guidance coach has experience not only as a lawyer, but as a mother who navigated the system with a powerful ex who manipulated the custody system. Through that process, she identified what most clients have a difficult time hearing from their lawyer, that emotions are not meant to be handled in court. Paying to get the straight up advice outside chipping away at your legal retainer for legal advocacy is the best way to take an actionable plan to your lawyer, rather than expecting your lawyer to instruct you, which isn’t how it works anyway. Lawyers want clients who give them directives that are based in sound law, not directives that are emotionally charged.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LEGAL GUIDANCE COACHING AND LEGAL REPRESENTATION?

Your legal guidance coach will not tell you your chances on any outcome in court, draft any legal documentation, or represent your interests to a tribunal. Legal representation means that as your legal advocate your lawyer may represent your interests in court and to the opposing party. As a legal guidance coach, the representation is limited in scope to explaining documentation, the legal process, what and how emotions are clouding judgment, and individual steps to take pro se or alongside your attorney to achieve a desired outcome realistically and without charged emotions.

AM I LIMITED TO ONE COACHING SESSION?

Not at all. You may seek legal guidance coaching as many times as you need to achieve clarity around your specific desired outcome. Most of the time, these sessions are limited because they are so straightforward that the client doesn’t require or find further sessions necessary after they achieve the emotional clarity. The only time the legal guidance coach will cease sessions is if the client continues to request free legal advice regarding representation in court, drafting legal documents, and other agenda’s that are outside the scope of coaching.

DOES THE TALKING POINTE PROVIDE OTHER TYPES OF COACHING?

At this time, our clinicians are providing only mental health therapy and wellness sessions, and do not provide additional coaching services outside the scope of their therapy practice. Legal guidance coaching is something our clinician, Ashley Anson, felt was a necessary service for a population of people she feels passionate to help as a previous lawyer and victim of the legal system. However, if there is any interest in life coaching services, please contact us and we would consider adding on additional services depending on the interest!
