“Light precedes every transition. Whether at the end of a tunnel, through a crack in the door or the flash of an idea, it is always there, heralding a new beginning.” – Theresa Tsalaky

Transitions and life are hard; going to counseling shouldn’t be! Hi, my name is Allison, and my goal is to help each client feel comfortable, respected, and empowered to make life’s decisions. I aim to aid others in accomplishing this goal through the therapeutic development of empathetic and authentic interactions.  Trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I aid those suffering from deep trauma make break throughs after years of finding no answers.  This brief and effective therapy brings healing where only pain resides and allows individuals to move toward the future rather than remaining frozen in the past.

I also have a passion for working with women, families, and children. I have extensive experience in School Counseling and aim to help children learn how to regulate and deal with everyday stresses, transitions, adolescence, friendships, bullying, and emotional wellness.  I also aim to encourage parents to be part of the healing process and help them to support their child in their journey.  My experience over the last ten years has been in working with behavioral issues, self-esteem, anxiety, attachment disorders, abuse/neglect, impulse control, relationships & connections, school issues, and group therapy.  I work in individual, group, and relationship therapy at The Talking Pointe, and I look forward to working with those individuals who want to make positive changes in their lives.

One issue that is prevalent among those in the helping professions, teaching, healthcare, law, and counseling is workplace burnout, and I was a witness to this as a School Counselor.  Showing up to a 9-5 job that is high need and high stress while individuals work to remain emotionally regulated despite conflicting personalities, challenging childhood emotions, and staff frustrations causes individuals to fall into negativity as they navigate what can be perceived as a thankless job.  This viewpoint perpetuates the hurt and empathic healers lose their desire to help when we need them in the world most.  I want to encourage those in these positions find hope and set healthy boundaries to reignite their passion in caring for others again.

HEAL IT

Miscarriage, Infertility, and Infant Loss has been another issue close to my heart as I struggled to become a mother; it was such an isolating and incredibly lonely journey.  I want to help other mothers who feel alone in their journey find peace and healing.  I have been there, and I want to support those that feel others cannot understand their journey as it is such a unique experience to each person.  There is relief in numbers, and I encourage you to let down your guard and let me help you release the pain.

I utilize a variety of therapeutic interventions to help clients meet their goals. It takes courage and vulnerability to seek help for life’s ups and downs. A professional connection can help you, as a client, build new skills and start living your best life.

Come see me today, and take that first step toward a brighter future!

  • EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a psychotherapy approach designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. In simple terms, during an EMDR session, individuals recall distressing experiences while the therapist guides them through specific bilateral eye movements, taps, or sounds. This process helps reprocess traumatic memories, reducing their emotional charge and allowing individuals to integrate these memories more adaptively. EMDR has shown transformative effects on various mental health issues, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and phobias. It can relieve symptoms like intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and heightened emotional reactions, empowering individuals to regain control over their lives and build resilience in the face of mental health challenges. Here, is a video, to help explain the process more in-depth.

  • Life transitions, whether it be starting a new job, dealing with divorce, entering parenthood or struggling with infertility, experiencing an empty nest and learning one’s partner again, or coping with loss of stability or relationships, often bring a host of challenges as individuals navigate the unfamiliar terrain of change. These transitions can trigger anxiety, self-doubt, and a sense of unbelonging. Talk therapy and counseling emerge as invaluable resources in providing support and guidance through these tumultuous periods. By offering a safe and non-judgmental space, therapists assist individuals in exploring their emotions, gaining clarity, and developing coping mechanisms.

Through open dialogue, individuals can articulate their concerns, fears, and aspirations, fostering a deeper understanding of themselves and the transition at hand. Therapeutic interventions provide tools to build resilience, helping individuals adapt to change, cultivate a sense of purpose, and emerge from life transitions with newfound strength and clarity. Whether it's navigating career shifts, relationship changes, or personal growth, talk therapy serves as a compass, guiding individuals through the challenges and fostering resilience in the face of life's evolving landscapes.

  • Experiencing a miscarriage, infertility, or infant loss can be emotionally devastating, encompassing grief, guilt, and profound sadness. Individuals grappling with these challenges may find themselves overwhelmed by a complex mix of emotions that impact their mental well-being. Symptoms such as persistent sadness, anxiety, feelings of isolation, or difficulty coping with daily life may indicate the need for therapeutic support. Talk therapy provides a compassionate space for individuals to express their grief, explore their emotions, and make sense of their experiences. A therapist can offer guidance, validate feelings, and provide coping strategies tailored to the unique challenges of pregnancy loss and infertility. Engaging in talk therapy becomes a crucial first step towards healing, allowing individuals to navigate the complex emotional landscape, find solace, and build resilience in the face of profound loss and uncertainty.
